Andrew Charles

Andrew joined LionFish as Senior Adviser in April 2026, bringing almost four decades of experience in litigation funding and commercial litigation. Andrew brings a wealth of legal and commercial expertise rooted in unparalleled funding experience and pragmatic, commercially focused perspectives.

Andrew began his career in private practice in 1989 at Barker Gosling Lawyers in Brisbane where he focused on commercial litigation. He was then seconded to an international trading business and went on to practice as an international lawyer in Hong Kong. 

Upon returning to Australia, Andrew ultimately branched out on his own where he ran commercial and class Actions funded by global litigation funder Omni Bridgeway Limited (then IMF Limited) (ASX:OBL) at a time when litigation funding was in its infancy. Andrew spent two decades advising clients and funders across a broad range of commercial disputes in sectors including banking, insolvency, mining and resources, construction, aviation and sport. 

 In 2007, Omni invited Andrew to establish its Queensland office which he managed and headed from Brisbane. He was responsible for sourcing and successfully managing many of Omni's largest class actions and then went on to hold numerous senior roles within the business, including head of its NZ business and member of its global investment committee. 

In 2019 Andrew set up his own consultancy business which primarily involved sitting on Omni’s Global investment committee, with the responsibility of determining the viability of funding for large commercial disputes both through arbitration and various countries legal systems.
